Dark-Fantasy Roguelite Brick Breaker

Blackstone Breach

A brick breaker where the bricks are a fortress garrison that repairs, reshuffles and panics as you break through.

Overview

A brick breaker set during a siege. You command the Breach Wagon, a battered carriage with an iron bumper and a cursed green lantern, and bounce a cannonball into the walls of Blackstone. The twist is that the walls fight back. Every room is a small garrison with its own emergency plan: engineers patch the breach you just opened, shieldbearers shift to cover an exposed captain, archers loose arrows when their cover collapses, and gargoyles wake up grumbling when nobody else is left. The fortress takes routine damage with the dignity of a bureaucracy under audit.

Highlights

  • Defenders that react. Each hit on the wall arms an enemy phase. Repairs, shield shifts, commander orders and archer fire are authored per room and spend a limited reaction budget, so the formation destabilises rather than just thinning out.
  • A run, not a level list. Draft a relic or upgrade between rooms, from a wider chassis to plague shot to a chain hook that hauls the ball back. Five active tools bolt onto the wagon. Shards earned per run unlock new chassis and relics in the Belfry Arsenal.
  • Five biomes with their own tricks. The Gatehouse teaches the basics. The Crumbling Chapel adds cursed glass and priests raising ghost barriers. The Iron Bastion runs on golems and gates. The Gargoyle Belfry blows the ball sideways. The Royal Keep is guards, shields and one very pompous commandant.
  • A fortress that talks. Defenders bark when exposed, captains shout orders that half the line ignores, and the fortress issues formal notices about how the gate is merely resting.
  • Skirmish or campaign. Five rooms, one per biome, for a quick taste. Forty-six for the full siege.

How It’s Built

Every pixel is drawn in code. A sprite factory paints the blackstone wall, banners, torches, hooded defenders, the wagon and the cannonball into textures at boot, tinted per biome, so the game ships with no image files at all. The audio is synthesised the same way, from masonry cracks to the sequenced music. Rooms are authored as data with their scripts and reaction budgets, and a headless regression suite plays the authored rooms end to end on a fixed clock so a pacing tweak can’t quietly break a boss.

What’s Next

More biomes past the Royal Keep, daily seeded sieges, and a pass on the defenders’ comedy timing now that they have faces.
