Mill Creek Mall

Overview

Mill Creek Mall is an enclosed mall in Secaucus, New Jersey. I rebuilt it in 3D as it stood around 2003, so you can walk it again. Come in through the vestibule and follow the concourse past storefronts, planters and kiosks until the blue lettering of The Eatery comes up ahead.

Highlights

• The whole mall. Three entrances, the shopping spine, the food court and an anchor store at each end, all on one walkable floor.
• Every store is a real tenant. I pulled the names from the period leasing plan. Look at any space and its name and size appear.
• A map on M. See where you are, then click anywhere to walk there.
• Ambience that follows you. A concourse murmur, a different hum in the food court, wind in the parking lot, and footsteps that change from tile to asphalt.

How It’s Built

A script builds the mall in Blender, so it rebuilds from source, and I slimmed it down until a browser holds it comfortably. A high quality mode adds lighting baked from the original scene.

Process

I designed and built it solo from a leasing plan and period photographs. The tenants and layout follow the evidence. Heights, finishes and furnishings are my best interpretation.
