Sail one small boat through a day and a gale

Long Reach

Sail one small boat across an archipelago in a single day, from a dawn harbor through a night gale to a rainbow landfall.

Overview

Long Reach is one sailing voyage, start to finish. You leave a sleepy harbor at dawn, run down the coast, thread a channel between islands, beat upwind into the sunset, survive a night gale and make landfall as the sun comes up. The day and the weather follow your progress, so the sunset always lands on the beat and the storm always comes at night.

Highlights

  • A boat that really sails. Trim the sail to the wind, gybe, hike out and surf down the waves. Push too hard in the gale and she knocks down.
  • The sea you see is the sea you ride. The boat rises and rolls on the same waves on screen, and leaves a wake of foam.
  • A gale at night. Rain, lightning and lighthouse beams sweeping through the dark, with your lantern the only light on deck.
  • Company on the way. Dolphins ride the bow wave, a whale surfaces, and a rainbow waits over the far isle.

How It’s Built

Nothing in the game is an image or a sound file. The sea, the sky, the islands and the boat are all made in code, and so is every creak, gust and wave.

Process

Designed and built solo, using agentic engineering for the ocean and the sail physics. Plays in a desktop browser with a keyboard or a gamepad.
