Official Band Website
Kool & the Gang
The official site for a Hall of Fame funk band: tickets in two clicks, five decades of records, and a map of who sampled them.
Overview
Kool & the Gang have been making records since 1969 and are one of the most sampled bands in music. Their old site gave the Hall of Fame induction one sentence and got some of the sales figures wrong. The new one puts the legacy up front, so a fan can buy a ticket in two clicks or spend an hour following “Jungle Boogie” through thirty years of hip-hop.
Highlights
- The sample map. Over a hundred records that borrowed from the band, from Nas to Madonna, on one timeline. Press “Play the years” and watch them land. The surprise: “N.T.”, a song that never charted, is one of the most borrowed.
- A record shelf. The catalog is shelved like LPs, by era. Point at a cover and the record slides out of its sleeve.
- An opening act. First-time visitors get a quick cut through the band’s history, then the gold logo, then vintage footage of the band behind the headline.
- Three doors. Tickets, Merch, History. Everything else waits below for the people who want to dig.
Design and Build
Deep black, warm gold and cream, taken straight from the band’s 1970s record sleeves, with their own lyrics dropped in as headlines. Every fact lives in one checked source, so one person can keep the tour dates, records and band up to date, and the merch store wears a matching theme.
Process
Designed and built solo at TAG Online, from the research to the store theme, using agentic engineering for the sample map and the motion.
