Overview
Big Ugly Survivor is a short survivor game about Gus, a sweaty, lopsided problem working the gutter shift. You only steer. Gus attacks the nearest creep on his own, and every level up offers three mutations. Survive four timed waves, then beat the Health Inspector in wave five.
Highlights
- Bad habits as weapons. I armed Gus with what he had on him. He starts with spit and a plunger, and can pick up chattering dentures that circle him and a stink cloud nobody asked for.
- Getting worse is the goal. Eight mutations stack, from “Overactive glands” to “Sticky fingers.” Clear a wave and you get one free.
- One button for panic. I gave him a single move of his own: a quick dash that makes him untouchable for a moment.
- The Health Inspector. Wave five is a crowned pimple with a clipboard. A warning ring flashes before each volley of shots, and he attacks faster at half health.
How It’s Built
It runs on Spark Engine, my own browser game engine. Every creep and set of teeth is drawn in code, and the sound effects and jazz were made with ElevenLabs. It plays in your browser with a keyboard.
Process
I designed and built it solo, using agentic engineering for the combat and the art in code.
